About us
We are a team of 11 physicians working at the Department of Geriatrics. Almost all of us have worked here continuously since graduating from medical school, which has allowed us to build a stable team with extensive experience in acute geriatric care.
We share a common belief that even in challenging times and difficult moments, older patients deserve professional care delivered in dignified conditions.
Our Department
The 1st Department of Geriatrics, Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University and the University Hospital Bratislava, located at Limbová 5 (Kramáre), provides care for acutely ill older patients.
The department has 21 beds, including 3 intensive care unit (ICU) beds. It also operates an admissions office and offers specialised diagnostic services, such as echocardiography and 24-hour Holter ECG monitoring.
These services are delivered by an experienced multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, medical assistants, and orderlies.
As a university department, it also plays a key role in education and research—teaching medical students in internal propaedeutics, internal medicine, and geriatrics, providing postgraduate and specialist training for physicians, and conducting and publishing scientific research.
Our goals
- Improving the quality of care environment and patient comfort (e.g. installing air conditioning in patient rooms, Wi-Fi access)
- Enhancing medical technical equipment (e.g. purchasing a portable ultrasound system and a vein-finder device)
- Strengthening nursing care resources (e.g. acquiring additional pressure-relief mattresses, specialised chairs, and anti-decubitus aids)
